Sheep Creek flows right under the Richardson Highway around 19 mile. Near 18.5 mile on the Richardson Highway, east of Valdez, the DOT has a gravel shed with ample parking past the shed. From near the shed walk east and there is a trail that rises up out of the gravel yard and passes through the trees then follows Sheep Creek.
Sheep Creek is a glacier fed creek it flows 5 miles out of the Chugach Mountains to the Lowe River. Before crossing under the Richardson Highway, Sheep Creek runs through a long narrow canyon. traversing up the creek can become difficult in summer north of the highway as the canyon through which it flows narrows and the mountain slopes above it are steep.
In winter it is not uncommon for people to travel up it by foot to access some ice climbs that form on the canyon walls above it.
