Starting Pay: $30 per Hour + Tips + Performance & Season Completion Bonus
Location: Valdez, AK
Schedule: Seasonal Full Time, Mid May through Mid Sept

We're looking for a self-motivated person who loves the outdoors and sharing it with others. This person will also know how to handle a canoe and possess a hunger to explore. The right candidate will also be observant in clients' abilities and encourage their personal growth while keeping activities fun and rewarding for the clients. With the exception of the occasional cruise excursion, each tour is a private tour reducing stress and optimizing client enjoyment.

Responsibilities
  • Canoe Guiding – Safely paddle guests in an 8-passenger canoe on a glacial lake among icebergs. Managing and instructing clients with proper balance. Understand safety when navigating and dealing with icebergs and wind.
  • Wilderness Guiding – Responsible for providing clients with safety instruction and for leading clients on a guided hikes over varied terrain. Choosing the proper routes for client's abilities.
Required Qualifications
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • 21+ years old by the first date of employment
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in activities you will be guiding
  • Fluency in English
  • Reliable transportation in Valdez
  • People person with the ability to lead
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wilderness First Responder or EMT/W-EMT training
  • Canoe or Kayak guiding experience
  • Cold Water Rescue Training
  • Glacier knowledge and experience
  • Comfortable in the mountains is good for other activities
Starting Pay: $50 per Article
Location: Alaska
Schedule: Freelance, Yearround through Yearround

We're looking to hire someone later along in life who loves the outdoors, learning about people and might be looking for a productive way to fill time. Ideally someone who is a good storyteller with at least high school graduate writing skills. This position involves producing and finalize biographies through research, sometimes interviewing with families, friends, and associates of those you're writing about. Articles should be at least 500 words and provide a well-rounded image of the subjects' life, with a focus of the subjects' time and influence in the outdoors of Alaska. Subjects will be assigned, but we are open to accepting work about people who the writer finds to be interesting who have played a role in the Alaskan outdoors.
