So named by Capt, Vancouver (1798, v. 3, p. 248), RN, beacause of the designing nature of the Tlingits whom Joseph Whidbey encountered here, July 16 , 1794. It was called "M(ys) Seduktion," Russian Translation of the name "Seduction," on Chart 1396 of the Russian Hydrographic Dept. in 1848. Captain M. D. Tebenkov, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), recorded it as "M(ys) Soblazna," meaning "Cape Seduction," in 1852. In 1867, George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), called the point "Seduction Tongue."
