HistoryNamed by members of the Glacier Bay Expedition of 1941 (Field, 1947, pl. 1) for Kloh Kutz, whose name means "hole-in-the-cheek," a chief of the Chilkats. In 1869, these Indians reportedly informed George Davidson, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), of the existence of Glacier Bay.
