From downtown Valdez get on the Richardson Highway, turn left on to Airport Road stay on it to the end(even as it becomes Glacier Campground Rd). This will get you to the lake and the head of the stream. There are a few turns at that end which will take to different put-ins along the stream.
Richardson Highway crosses Valdez Glacier Stream a mile before it enters Port Valdez.
Valdez Glacier Stream is fed by the run off of Valdez Glacier Lake. On hot days Valdez Glacier Stream makes for a fun short float. It is a braided stream so you might find yourself floating through a shallow braid and need to portage your boat/raft a few feet to get back in to deeper water.
All the streams and water that feed Valdez Glacier Stream are glacier melt run off so you can expect the stream to be cold at any time of year.
July-September salmon spawn along some sections of the stream so be aware you are in black and brown bear country. Both have been seen along the stream, but not nearly often enough to count on seeing them. Eagles and seagulls are sure to be seen.
The water level of the stream can vary greatly in any weather. In summer ice dams and glacier lakes have surged the stream raising in 8ft in less than a day.
Browns Creek was a local name published in the 1950's by the USGS. Likely after a local prospector, or resident of some sort. However this information can not be confirmed more than speculated.
