HistoryNamed in 1898 for Emil Mahlo, a topographer with Captain Abercrombie's expedition of 1898 to the arrea, who, working with F.C. Schrader's party, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), made the first topographic map the the Valdez Glacier area.
