About

on E side of Glacier Bay, 14 mi. N of Strawberry I., St. Elias Mts.

History

So named in 1948 by Board on Geographic Names (BGN) "because it is a nesting place for puffins"; U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1940 proposed the name "Cliff Island" because of the bold cliff on the north shore.
