S of Hoggatt I., N end of Baranof I., 23 mi. SE of Chichagof, Alex. Arch. 0.3 mile long.

History

Named in 1895 by Lieutenant Commander E. K. Moore, U.S. Navy (USN), for Ensign Wilford Bacon Hoggatt, 1865-1938, a member of his party in 1895-97 and who later became governor of Alaska, 1906-09. Hoggatt was born in Indiana and was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He was a navy officer, 1884-98, before becoming a mining engineer.
