Named in 1895 by Lieutenant Commander E. K. Moore, U.S. Navy (USN), for Lieutenant Hugh Rodman, U.S. Navy (USN), a member of his party. The name was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) on Chart 8283.
