HistoryNamed for Cape Fanshaw 3 miles to the southwest. In 1901, the town was a fishing village and the site of a cannery. The Cape Fanshaw post office was established in 1902; it was renamed "Fanshaw" in 1932 (Ricks, 1965, p. 9).
