History of Hoonah Island

Named Hooniah Island by E. F. Dickins, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), in 1901 for the village of Honniah, nw spelled Hoonah. The name was publsihed in the 1901 Coast Pilot (p. 202).
