History of Port Frederick

Named in July, 1794, by Captain George Vancouver, Royal Navy (RN), "no doubt after Adolphus Frederick, Son of (King) George iii (of England)" (Wagner, 1937, p. 389). The Tlingit Indian name for this feature was reported in 1869 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), as "Kom-tok Hon."
