History

Named "Horne Point" by Captain Nathaniel Portlock (1789, map facing p. 227) for Robert Horne, carpenter of his vessel King George, while exploring the region in 1787. It was called "Punta de Espada" (Point Sward) in 1779 by the Spanish explorers Don Juan de la Bodega y Quadra and Don Ignacia Arteaga on a unpublished manuscript chart called "Puerto de Santiago."
