HistoryNamed in 1778 by Captain James Cook, RN, "after Viscount Hinchinbroke, John Montagu's father, and afterward used by several navigators * * *" (Wagner, 1937, p. 392). feature was called "M(ys) Morskoi," meaning "sea cape", by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 6), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
