Named by Lieutenant Woronkofski in 1837; published as "M(ys) Poludennie," or "Noon Point" on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1379 (1847). U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) published the translated name in 1888.
