On the N coast of Saint Lawrence Island, it forms part of the bar enclosing Niyrakpak Lagoon, 16 mi. SE of Gambell.

History

Eskimo name reported in 1932 by O. W. Geist, University of Alaska. Orth reported its meaning, obtained at Gambell in 1965, as "always a mound."
