About

S of the Matanuska River on the W edge of Matanuska Glacier, 80 mi NE of Anchorage, Chugach Mountains.

History

Named in 1960 by E. L. Bartlett, Senator from Alaska and F. A. Seaton, Secretary of the Interior for James Wickersham (1857-1939), Attorney, District Judge, and Territorial Delegate to Congrass from Alaska. He was the leader of the first and unsuccessful attempt to climb Mount McKinley (now Denali) in 1903.
