History of Mertie Mountains

Named for John Beaver Mertie (1888-1980), geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey from 1908 to 1958, who did pioneering geologic studies in Alaska for over 40 years, with a major portion of the studies pertaining to the area of these mountains.
