HistoryName published in 1848 as "Os(trov) Vrangelya" on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1396; named for Admiral Baron Ferdinand Petrovich von Wrangell. According to Captain Tebenkov (1852, p. 8), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), the Indian name was "Os(trov) Kachkhanna."
