HistoryAleut name recorded by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 26), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), as "O(strov) Tanginakh." R. H. Geoghegan reports that the name is probably derived from the Aleut word "Tangidak" meaning "islet" or "small island."
