HistoryProbably named by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map26), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), for Captain Lieutenant Peter Kuzmich Krenitzin (or Krenitsyn), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), who, with Lieutenant M. D. Levashev, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1768-69 explored and mapped over 30 islands in the Aleutians. Captain Tebenkov spelled the name "Ostrova Krinitsyna" or "Krinitsyn Islands."
