Translation of the Russian Word "Visokoi, meaning "high"; published by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 24); shown in 1872 by W. H. Dall, US@C&GS, as Vesoki. The English from "High Island" appeared in 1888 U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) report.
