About

Located off the northeast coast of Baranof Island, 22.5 km (14 mi) north of Baranof, Alexander Archipelago. 10 miles long.

History

Named in 1935 byU.S. Forest Service (USFS)for Catherine I (Martha Skavronskaya), 1684-1727, Empress and Tsarina of Russia, 1725-27, who financed and encouraged Vitus Bering in his early explorations of the Aleutian Islands and Alaska.
