About

History

Named in 1882 by W. H. Dall, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), for the Coast Survey steamer Hassler, which was on a surveying cruise in this vicinity in 1881. The Hassler was in turn named for Ferdinand Rudolph Hassler, first Director of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, 1807-18, 1832-43.
