Named in 1927 by Captain R. S. Patton, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), "because of its proximity to Sakie Bay. This feature was called Reef Point by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1919; changed because of duplication."
