Tlingit Indian name published in 1923 on International Boundary Commission (IBC) Sheet 9 (1951 atlas). A proposal to change the name Nahku Bay to Long Bay was submitted in June 1994; the USBGN rejected the proposal on 18 April 1996, because not enough evidence was submitted to warrant changing a name with long term local and historical usage.
