From Juneau or Sitka chartering a float plane would be the simplest way to reach Basket Bay.
Basket Bay is half a mile wide and lies 8 miles south of the mouth of Tenakee Inlet, on Chichagof Island, 45 mi. NE of Sitka, Alexander Archipelago.
According to stories there used to be a Tlingit settlement in Basket Bay.
Named by the employees of the Alaska Oil and Guano Company at Killisnoo about 1900. The Tlingit name Kook Bay was published in 1899 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) on Chart 8050. It was called Kakagin Inlet in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 178).
