History

named in 1880 by Captain L. A. Beardslee, U.S. Navy (USN), for Lieutenant Gustavus Charles Hanus, U.S. Navy (USN), who discovered and surveyed the reef. was published by the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 181) as Hanus Rocks.
