HistoryName reported in the 11th Census in 1890 (1893, p. 77) as "Old Harbor, named Staruigavan by the Russians and Nunamiut by the natives * * *. This settlement, containing now less than 100 people, was once an important station of the Russian Fur Company * * *." The old Harbor post office was established in 1931 (Ricks, 1965, p. 48).
