extending near head of Ikpikpuk River, Arctic Slope
This originated as a locality name used by geologists on the Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 4 exploration in the 1940's It is near here that Ensign W. L. Howard noted "at this plaace the last green brush was seen ten to twelve feet high" (Stoney, 1900, p. 72).
