Big Grayling Lake Trail
10 mi (16.09 km)
3000 ft (914.4 m)
Travel to the Lost Creek trailhead(directions found on that page), then proceed up the trail for 2 miles, where the Big Grayling Lake & Soda Creek Trail will take you east. Once on the trail it's 2.5 miles to Big Grayling Lake, and 10 miles if you want to head up to the Soda Creek Mineral Spring, just below Soda Lake.
When traveling in the park ORV (Off-Road Vehicle) permits are required for all recreational users. To obtain a permit, apply in person at the Slana Ranger Station (907) 822-7401 or Park Headquarters (907) 822-7250.
The trail is adequate for hiking and ORV use. The recreational ORV trail ends at a campsite on Soda Creek and is marked with a sign. To continue to the mineral spring and on to Soda Lake hiking is required to preserve the area. This area is great for base camping with day hikes and opportunities to view Dall sheep and other wildlife. There is enough to explore among the Mentasta Mountains and Soda Lake area to keep one occupied for several days.
