History of Yakchilak

Former Eskimo village reported in 1878 by E. W. Nelson, U. S. Signal Service, who gave its name as "Yukhtokialgamute." W. S. Post and J. E. Spurr, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), spelled the name "Yachtshilagamut," which they obtained in 1898 from J. H. Kilbuck, Moravian missionary.
