HistoryNamed by prospectors; reported in 1896 by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). "At the junction of these two streams (Harrison and Birch Creeks) is Pitkas Bar, where, in 1893, gold in the Birch Creek district was first discovered" (Spurr, 1898, p. 351).
