Tributary of Ustay River, flowing SE to the Alsek River and Dry Bay just S of the mouth of Muddy Creek and 48 mi SE of Yakutat. in Tongass National Forest, Malaspina Coastal Plain. 6 miles long.
HistorySo called because of a cannery located at its mouth on Dry Bay. Name was published by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 1959. The Indian name "Stuhinuk" was reported by Lieutenant Commander Moser (1901, pl. 43 and p. 387), U.S. Navy (USN), but because of 40 years of local usage the name "Cannery Creek" was approved by Board on Geographic Names (BGN) in 1962. This stream appears to correspond in application with Gines or Hines River of Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 7), Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
