Indian name reported in 1883 by Lieutenant Schwatka (1885, sheet. 7), USA, as "Tatondu River or Totondu River." In 1896 the name was reported as "Tatonduc" by Spurr (1898, p. 261), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
