To get to Pontoon you're going to first make your way out to Valdez from there the easiest way is to find one of the heliski companies to take you out there if sometime between mid-February to end of April. Otherwise contact Vertical Solutions helicopters in Valdez.
If you really want you can get in there on foot. Options include going up Wortmanns Glacier but going up Deserted Glacier is likely the most common approach.
The Deserted Glacier approach beings at the "hairpin" turn on the south side of Thompson Pass. Head up Moonlight Basin and then head towards Marshall Pass. Before you get to Marshall Pass head up Deserted Glacier. Stay to the east but be mindful of avalanche run out off that east wall. From that point you'll be looking at Pontoon.
Your choice to go up west (up) or east(down) before proceeding to Pontoon.
Well known in Valdez skiing lore Pontoon draws the bold and skilled to run it.
