About

Mount Hubbard is a Alaska-Canada boundary peak, located 58 miles north of Yakutat in the St. Elias Mountains. Mount Hubbard is located in Kluane National Park and Reserve on its Canadian side, and in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park on the American side.

As the 10 tallest peaks in the US are in Alaska, Mount Hubbard is naturally the 8th highest peak in both. While ranking 19th highest in North America. The summit has an isolation of nearly 21 miles.

Mount Hubbard is quite prominent amongst its surrounding. The eastern side of Mount Hubbard provides a non-technical route to the summit. Being 25 miles from Disenchantment Bay and inlet straight north of the Gulf of Alaska weather can be a challenge in climbing the mountain.

History

Named by Russell (1891, p. 99), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in 1890 for Gardiner G. Hubbard, 1822-97, founder and first president of the National Geographic Society, which, with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), sponsored Russell's expedition.
