The feature is in Kenai Mountains, on Kenai Peninsula, approximately 2 mi. west of Seward, Chugach Mts.

History

Named for the marathon races that are run on the mountain each year. The first "mountain marathon" race was run in 1915. The marathon consists of a race to the top of the mountain and back (Currier, 1966, p. 10-13).
