History of Fulton Peak

Named in 1887 by Lieutenant Commander C. M. Thomas, U.S. Navy (USN), for Robert Fulton, 1765-1815, American inventor, engineer, and painter, who built the Clermont, the first commercially successful American steamboat, launched in 1807. The name was published in 1889 by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS).
