An 1882 translation by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) of name given in 1838 by Captain Lieutenant D. F. Zarembo; published in 1848 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1396 as "Os(trov) Elovyy."
