History

Russian word meaning "washed over (awash)" given in 1838 by Captain Lieutenant D.F. Zarembo. Name applied to the larger of the three rocks in 1848 on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1396; US@C&GS applied the name to all three rocks in 1891 coast Pilot (p. 142).
