HistorySo named in 1869 by Commander R. W. Meade, U.S. Navy (USN), because the ruins of a blockhouse and stockade built by the Hudson's Bay Co. in 1840-41 were on the point. The name was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 169).
