HistoryNamed in 1787 by Captain Dixon (1789, p. 170). There has been confusion in the application of the names "Phipps, Carrew and Ocean Points." According to the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 206) Captain Kromchenko, Imperial Russian Navy (IRN), in 1823 applied the name "Phipps" to this point.
