South of the entrance to Sukoi Bay, on the NE coast of Alaska Peninsula, in Katmai National Monument, 33 mi SE of Augustine Island, Aleutian Range.
HistoryName given by Captain Cook (1785, p385), Royal Navy (RN), on May 25, 1778. He wrote, "This promontory I named Cape Douglas in honor of my very good friend, Dr. [John] Duglas, canon of Windsor." Wagner (1937, p384) says, "in reality he [Cook] considered the two-headed mountain to be the cape as he was at some distance from it ." Baker (1906, p. 224): "The native name is given as Kuluak, Koukhat, and Kuchat."
