About

extends 2 mi., in Shelikof Strait, on NE coast of Alaska Peninsula, in Katmai National Monument, 5 mi. S of Cape Douglas and 39 mi. S of Augustine I., Aleutian Range

History

Name derived from Cape Douglas and given by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1910 in an effort to eliminate duplication of the names "Bobrovyy," (meaning sea otter), and "Sea Otter" in this area. Baker (1906, p. 558) published the name "sea Otter" for this feature.
