Native name was published in 1847 as "Ostrov Shunakhtuli" on Russian Hydrographic Dept. Chart 1378; named "O(strov) Kamyshak" in 1849 by Captain Tebenkov (1852, map 5); Imperial Russian Navy (IRN).
