About

Port Moore is a bay on the southeast side of Point Barrow at west end of Elson Lagoon. It's not a town, though the town of Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) sits near the bay.

Syfys Ghost Wars likely choose Port Moore as the name because it is the furthest northern point of Alaska. But there are no records of unusual paranormal activity. Ghost Wars was filmed in the Squamish, BC are north of Vancouver, and while Squamish resembles much of Southeast, Alaska Port Moore is surrounded by barren flat tundra to the south and the Arctic Ocean to the north.

History of Port Moore

Naming: Commander Rochfort Maguire (Great Britain, 1854, map facing p. 188) applied the name "Moore's Harbor" to the area just S of Plover Point where he wintered the H.M.S. Plover in 1852-53. The subsequent 1853 British Admiralty (Brit. Adm.) Chart 2164 used the name "Port Moore." It commemorates Commander Thomas E. L. Moore, Royal Navy (RN) (Leffingwell, 1919, p. 97).
