Name published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in 1889 probably for Captain George Dixon, Royal Navy (RN), who had accompanied Captain Cook, Royal Navy (RN), on his last voyage in 1778 and who, with Captain Portlock, Royal Navy (RN), explored this area in 1787.
