In the SE end of Izembek Lagoon, 5 mi W of Fort Randall, 5 mi. WNW of village of Cold Bay, SW end of Alaska Peninsula, Bristol Bay Low. 4.5 miles wide.
HistoryNamed in 1888 by U.S. Bureau of Fisheries (USBF) for Samuel Applegate, U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS), who commanded the schooner Nellie Juan during a survey of this area in the 1880's.
