Tlingit Indian name reported in 1880 as Kluheeny by U.S. Navy. It was published by U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) in the 1883 Coast Pilot (p. 199) as T'lehini (or Kluhini) River. It is the Tlehini of Aurel and Arthur Krause (1883, map).
